Among the significant innovations in the new program agreement, signed in March 2025 between ANCI, EEE producers, collection companies, and the WEEE Coordination Center, which regulates the economic and service conditions at municipal collection centers for the 2025 – 2027 triennium, is the provision of containers exclusively for waste from equipment containing lithium batteries (R4).
For the delivery of these special load units, a transitional period has been defined, starting in October of this year and lasting approximately 24 months, during which the Collective Systems must place the load units at municipal collection centers following a predetermined geographical order. The new baskets will allow for the separate collection of Waste from electrical and electronic equipment containing batteries, with the aim of increasing safety and avoiding fire risks at the final destination facilities. In October, the Ecoem Consortium delivered to the ecological islands of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Lazio Regions, and the supply of baskets to over 100 collection points in Italy is scheduled by the end of the year.
